Résurgence

Ce titre s’est imposé dès les premières rencontres avec ces militant·es qu’on appelle les « écureuil·les ». Opposé·es au projet autoroutier A69, censé relier Castres à Toulouse, ils s’installaient dans le houppier des arbres pour empêcher leur abattage. Face à la répression, leur persistance l’a marqué. Ne pas se laisser abattre, croire en ses convictions, protéger les arbres et avoir un rapport sensible au territoire.

De novembre 2023 à septembre 2024, Alexis a partagé leur quotidien, une semaine par mois. Entre machines, forces de l’ordre et feuillus, s’esquissaient de nouvelles frontières : entre chantiers et zones à défendre, entre béton et vivant. Le 27 février 2025, le tribunal administratif de Toulouse annule l’autorisation environnementale et fait arrêter les travaux. L’État fait appel. Le 28 mai, la cour administrative accorde un sursis à exécution autorisant la reprise des travaux, sans attendre le jugement sur le fond du procès en appel.

Alexis Pichot

Photographe français, né en 1980. Poussé par un besoin de vivre une expérience forte et de se confronter à un autre réel, Il s’immerge et explore la nuit dans différents milieux naturels, enrichissant sa pratique de l’image ainsi que son expérience personnelle. Doucement, sa démarche photographique évolue, s’aligne et l’engage vers un témoignage d’action et de préservation du vivant et plus spécifiquement des arbres, de la forêt. De cet engagement est née la série Résurgence.

Resurgence

The title came to mind when he first met the activists known as “squirels”. Opposed to the A69 highway project linking Castres and Toulouse in France, they would set up camp in tree crowns to prevent trees from being felled. In the face of repression, their persistence left its mark on him. Not letting yourself be felled, believing in your convictions, protecting trees and having a sensitive relationship with the land.

From November 2023 to September 2024, Alexis shared their daily life, one week a month. Between machines, police and hardwoods, new frontiers were being drawn: between worksites and zones to be defended between concrete and living things. On February 27, 2025, the Toulouse Administrative Court annulled the environmental permit and stopped the work. The French government appealed. On May 28, the administrative court granted a stay of execution authorizing the resumption of work, without waiting for the judgment on the merits of the appeal.

Alexis Pichot

French photographer, born in 1980. Driven by a need to live a strong experience and to confront another reality, he immerses himself and explores the night in different natural environments, enriching his practice of the image as well as his personal experience. Slowly, his photographic approach evolves, aligns and commits him towards a testimony of action and preservation of the living and more specifically of trees, of the forest. From this commitment was born the series Resurgence.
