Avijit Ghosh – The Land of Conflict

6 October 2023 to 21 April 2024

The Land of Conflict

Sundarbans is a UNESCO world heritage site and only mangrove habitat to the endangered Bengal Tiger. But this unique mangrove ecosystem is under threat from climate change and human encroachment. Rising sea levels, frequent cyclones, coastal erosion and salinity have displaced many islanders and destroyed their livelihoods. Some of them depend on forest resources like honey, fish and crabs, which expose them to tiger attacks. The tigers also suffer from habitat loss and prey scarcity, which force them to enter villages. This project documents the stories of people and animals who live in this land of conflict, where survival is a daily struggle.
