Ararat – After the Flood
The myth of Noah’s Ark has remained both mysterious and central to many religious and ethnic traditions. Over the centuries, it has been passed down in many cultures.
The purpose of this photographic project, whether we believe in the veracity of this myth or not, is to bear witness to the life and heritage of Noah’s descendants at the foot of Mount Ararat.
Moreover, this region of the world has witnessed multiple battles between the Persians, Romans, Medes, Armenians and Ottomans throughout history. Beyond these political differences, I have seen the consequences of the climate crisis around Mount Ararat.
The irony of history is that the waters submerged this part of the world and allowed the return to life. Today, however, it is the absence of water and politics that are killing living beings and humanity at the foot of Mount Ararat. Would we be back before the Flood?
Murat Yazar
Murat Yazar, born in 1978, is a Kurdish photographer, based in Rome. Murat is from Eastern Turkey and he has created photo projects in his home country, in the Middle East, Armenia, Georgia, Iran and Europe. Murat crossed Anatolia into Georgia by walking 1200 km as part of the Out of Eden project.
