Mahé Elipe – Those who sow struggles

11 October to 10 November 2024

Those who sow struggles

“Those Who Sow Struggles” explores the independence of Mexican women in their quest for justice and recognition. Through their struggles, they transcend the status of victims to become defenders of human and environmental rights. Their struggles represent a quest for autonomy in the face of an oppressive system, marked by alarming figures: 11 feminicides per day, 100,000 missing people including 847 women in 2022 alone, as well as impunity of 94.8% in the investigations into violence… Whether they are survivors of feminicides, leaders of search groups for missing people, abortion companions, defenders of political prisoners or the territory, they demonstrate an incontestable strength, nourished by love, empathy and the desire for justice. By documenting these individual and collective stories, this project reveals places of autonomy and claim where Mexican women reaffirm their identity, their values and their beliefs, showing that independence is a continuous struggle, a vital breath that inspires to create and build a better future.
